State Governent departments to open 177 shops in Amma Weekly Markets

Amma Weekly markets  are set to be opened under the administration of the Chennai Corporation to sell over 1256 items including vegetables, pulses and grains, grocery items, and meat at very low prices without any middle-level brokers.

7 places have been selected, including Arumbakkam, Mint, Kotturpuram, and Marina Beach, where Amma weekly markets will open throughout the week.The places are getting ready.

There is a plan to open 200 shops in this Amma weekly markets.The Chennai Corporation officials have been approaching the various government departments asking them to set shops in the Amma weekly markets.

The Chennai Corporation officials informed that so far, 23 government departments have agreed to set up 177 shops. The officials have also approached the state government sugarcane development department to sell their products like jaggery and sugar. They have also approached the department of Minority Welfare to set up shops selling the products related to their religions.

The corporation officials have also invited Tirupur ready-made textile manufacturers and  shops selling electrical and electronic gadgets, and manufacturers of cooking items like spice powders. They have expressed keen interest to set up shops and selling their products at lower prices in the Amma weekly sandhai.
