As heavy downpour is expected due to Nada cyclone, the Vadapalani flyover is opened today. This flyover is present at the intersection of Arcot Road and Jawaharlal Nehru Road. Following huge delay, the flyover recently got ready and the government has been at the verge of announcing the opening date. This bi-directional flyover of 600 metre runs parallel below viaduct of Chennai Metro Rail close to Vadapalani station.
This flyover was believed to ease traffic on either of the roads. Recently, the Chennai Metro Rail had completed its works of construction and handed over the same to the highways department.
Plans were on to join the approach ramps along with the main structure. Electrification and painting works also took place recently and a bituminous tar layer was laid too.
As the construction of the flyover got over a few days ago, the officials of Chennai Metro Rail were under discussion about announcing the flyover inauguration date. While many dates were thought of for the inauguration all of which were during the month end of November or early December, Nada Cyclone and heavy rain threat have cornered the officials to inaugurate the bridge today.
