Organic farming process involves usage of fertilizers of organic nature is known. In this process compost manure, green manure etc are used to produce products and this organic farming was first started way back in the 20th century is known.
It is now said that every Sunday many people gather at a house in Mahalingapuram in Chennai. The house belongs to a person called Shanti Ullhas. In her car park is present organic farmers market and people coming here could buy many types of rice, dal, groundnuts etc.
It must be noted that three months back OFM or Organic Farmers Market launched an initiative known as ‘Network Hosting Safe Food Sundays’ and now Shanthi Ulhas and her husband are part of this initiative.
According to Mr Ananthoo who is one of the founders of OFM, in the year 2006 reStore in Kotivakkam was launched. In order to cater the demands of the middle class people many small hole in the wall shops were started just four years back. He also spoke about how people wanted those types of shop in their neighbourhood also. Now there are as many as 15 such shops in the Chennai city. It is now brought out that people wanted products from OFM and the places to sell the products from OFM were found.
All roads lead to Shanthi Ulhas house in Mahalingapuram from morning 10am to 2pm on Sundays and people gather here and buy organic farming products.
According to Shanthi, president of Mahalingapuram welfare association, WhatsApp is used by many people these days and this WhatsApp plays huge role in this organic products selling also. Details of the Sunday organic farmers market are posted in this WhatsApp group. This has resulted in the people coming from places like Saidapet and Santhome etc.
People coming to this organic market in Mahalingapuram would be amazed to see many aromatic varieties of rice plus dals, groundnuts, Himalayan rock salt. Jaggery and palm jiggery are also available in this shop in Mahalingapuram.
Homemaker Mrs Sujatha Arun, volunteer of OFM and Safe Food Sunday initiative shared her thoughts and said she used to bring vegetables from restore home and sell those in her apartment. She further spoke about the presence of this organic farmers market from evening 4pm to 7pm at Mangesh Street which is another courtyard cum car park.
It is now revealed that other neighbourhoods are showing huge interests in hosting this Sunday organic market and soon in Kodambakkam and in places like Tambaram and Kolathur we could see this organic market.
