People go to hospitals for their health check- ups plus for their treatment of their health issues are well known. It must be noted that hospitals do not send the scan reports etc of these patients quickly and there is always some delay in receiving the reports. This time delay won’t be there hereafter in the three hospitals present in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The superb news that has emerged out is ICH or Institute of Child Health in Egmore in Chennai plus other two hospitals located in Pollachi and Kallakurichi would be sending the scan reports etc to the patients through their email itself. This would reduce the time delay and any further treatment for these patients could be carried out earlier.
It is worthy to mention that the patients visiting the above mentioned hospitals would receive alert on their mobile phones when their scan reports are ready and the reports would be mailed to them.
The state health department has done a great job for the patients visiting these three hospitals in TN and it is now said that the above teleradiology services would be extended to hospitals belonging to other districts also. This was confirmed by Mr P. Umanath who is managing director of Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation. It is clear that doctors would be able to give scan reports as early as possible to the patients.
Laptops with an integrated SIM and 4G data would be provided to the radiologists of the three above mentioned hospitals. It is important to note that duty doctors as well as technicians would flag emergencies and based on the cloud of interpretation radiologists from TN would be able to access the scan.
One important piece of information is in case doctors attached to the scan centres are not present then doctors from other centres would be utilised and they would be paid their consultation fees through insurance or from states kitty. Elective scans would be cleared by the doctors within 24 hours as soon as urgent scan reports are cleared and that is superb news.
Poor distribution was cited as the issue and not the shortage of the radiologists and this was confirmed by the health department analysis.
It must be noted that there are as many as 50 scan centres and every day on an average more than 2500 scans are carried out. It is revealed that the number of scans falls between 0 per cent and 30 percent when scans are done after 3 pm because the duty hours of government based doctors gets completed.
According to Mr Umanath, performance in Pollachi based hospital had huge scope for improvement. He also shared his thoughts about the addition of more scanning machines plus upgrading MRIs, CT scans etc in the future.
Officials expressed their thoughts regardining the distribution of the specialist doctors who are present more in cities like Chennai and Coimbatore. They also hinted that it would be difficult for them to alter this distribution as living in the cities is more preferred due to the comforts.
