Significance of May Day

May Day is an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival. It is a traditional spring holiday in many cultures as well. Dances, singing, and cake are usually part of the celebrations that the day includes.
It is a public holiday usually celebrated on May. Another major significance was when May Day was chosen as the date for International Workers` Day by the Socialists and Communists of the Second International to commemorate the Haymarket affair in Chicago in the late 19th century,
International Workers` Day is also known as May Day, but it is a different celebration from the traditional May Day.
Known also as Labour Day, many political parties and unions host activities related to work and employment throughout the world. It is also celebrated as a token of remembrance of the occasion when the labourers were released from the unlimited hour of daily work - limited to 8 hours per day.
May Day is celebrated throughout the world with different significances and pattern of celebrations on different religious and spring related performances and celebrations. The European countries, Great Britain, France, Germany, Finland, Estonia, Ireland, Romania, Sweden, Poland, and Sweden celebrate May Day in different ways.
Similarly, It is celebrated in the Americas - Canada. The USA, South American countries and other countries all over the world with great pomp.
