Whenever we think of north Chennai we often get reminded about the congested roads with lots of houses, peoples all over the road, slow movement of vehicles. smoke from the industries  etc. Lack of space is one important factor here in the north Chennai. It is revealed that an open green space in north Chennai is a rare sight. In the last 10 years, GCC has been doing its best in north Chennai and has set up as many as 6 parks. These parks have been converted to theme based spaces on topics ranging from mobility, disability to greenery and to medicinal plants etc.

Korukkupet is an important locality belonging to this north Chennai and the news is the civic body has started its work on the eco-park on an eight acre plot in this Korukkupet.

The main features of this eco-park are its amazing greenery and landscaping. In addition to these the park would also have an artificial pond spread over 15 acres. The walkers and cyclists would feel very happy here as there would be separate tracks for them.

According to Mr. R, Mangalasubramanian, zonal officer of Tonbdiarpaet, the work on the pond is complete and landscaping, planting of saplings, lighting and water supply would be done inside 4 months of time. It is sad to mention here that in Chennai the green cover is going down by 2 percent every year and hence these types of eco-parks are highly important. Each resident must get atleast 9 sqm of open space but in Chennai each resident gets just 0.46 sq m of open space. This was as per World Health Organisation.

Open spaces are a must for physical as well as mental well being of a person and in cities in Chennai etc this must be given importance. This was confirmed by Kavitha Selvaraj who was responsible for designing Sensory Park. Kavitha then highlighted that instead of creating generic parks with facilities, a theme based park that could focus on a particular issue would be superb as there are different types of people living in the society. By this people would be educated well. She finally hinted that that the lack of space is not an issue.

There are many theme parks in Chennai like Traffic Park on Marina, Otteri Herbal Park, Sensory Park at Mandaveli and Kotturpuram Tree Park etc. It is now revealed that the upcoming eco-park at Korukkupet would also join the above mentioned theme parks.
