In the last few months of time there has been increase in the passenger movement during the extended weekends and during the normal weekends.
The official explained about how the department is gearing up to tackle the situation at the check-ins and at the security checks. The passengers have been informed to report early and this inspite the presence of the same number of counters and personnel.
It must be noted that staffs to monitor check-in and security check, more counters, new passageways or crowd control steps would be taken to reduce long queues etc. Important information is the Chennai airport does not have an inline baggage screening system that would allow the passengers to check-in without screening their check-in luggage. The airlines have begun flight services to smaller places and due to this reason there are more passengers at the domestic terminals. It is important to mention that the airlines are also monitoring flight movement plus passenger density during the peak hours. At the check-ins and also at the security checks, airline authorities are posting staffs to assist the passengers. As per an official the departure process could be speeded up during the peak hours of time by the presence of staffs at the baggage scanning and at the security counters to help the people. During the weekends, similar type of steps were taken earlier in the year also. The superb information is there is an increase of 15% in the passenger traffic due to direct flights to smaller places plus and to Udan destinations.
