How would you react if you come across the news that water and sewage has got mixed? Shocked right!!
The point is residents belonging to Jeevarathinam Nagar in Adyar and the residents belonging to AGS Colony of Velachery have been facing the issue where they have been getting water with bad smell for the past week. It has been pointed out by the officials of metro water department that sewer lines and metro water pipe lines were damaged because of trenchless cable laying and as a result of that the water got contaminated.
The important information is due to this trenchless laying of cables, atleast 10 places belonging to Adyar and Velachery has been affected and this was according to the executive director of metro water, Mr. T. Prabhushankar. It must be noted that trenchless laying of cables was carried out by ACT Broadband.
It is now said that for the purpose of laying cables for internet this ACT Broadband company was responsible for damaging the pipelines and this led to the mixing of sewage as well as water supplied to the residents belonging to places like Adyar and Velachery etc. For a period of 2 days the residents received contaminated water and this has been stopped now. This was as per the executive director of metro water. In Jeevarathinam Nagar in Adyar, the water and sewage lines got mixed and in as many as 8 places in Velachery the residents were affected.
In the last few months, metro water department has been getting this type of complaints from different parts of Chennai city. The executive director revealed that in the past no action was taken against the company that damaged the pipelines. The truth is now police complaint has been filed against ACT Broadband Company. This was also confirmed by Mr. Prabhushankar. Important information is the representatives belonging to ACT Broadband were not available to share their thoughts.
It was later pointed out by a resident belonging to Karpagam Gardens Second Main Road, Adyar, that about a week back the quality of water got changed and a complaint was filed immediately with the officials. She later threw light on how telephone cables were also damaged in her locality. The point is about 8000 lines in and around Karpagam Gardens was disconnected due to internet cable laying work by private operator. It is worthy to note that the metro water officials have identified the leak in the pipelines in Adyar and it has been plugged.
