In this month of June the first 2 days have been very hot. The important point is on Monday, 3rd June 2019, Chennai city might experience a pleasant day. The sky would be partly cloudy and this was as per the forecast made by the meteorological department. It was also revealed that in the evening the development of thunderstorms is possible.
It must be noted that Chennai city recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius on Saturday and 39 degree Celsius on Sunday. When compared to the core places in Chennai the suburbs were hotter. On Sunday, Meenambakkam recorded 41 degree Celsius. In the places like Vellore, the heat conditions in the southern and western suburbs caused convective heavy rains on Sunday.
It was later pointed out by an official belonging to the meteorological department that the rains would cool down the day temperature in the coming days. It must be noted that rain extended close to the far suburbs of Chennai. In the month of May, the maximum temperature was hovering around 36 degrees to 38 degrees for most part is known. In this June, the temperature has started to climb above 39 degree Celsius.
There would not be any immediate respite from the scorching heat in Chennai city as the maximum temperature would be around 39 degree and minimum temperature is likely to be 30 degrees Celsius. Nights are expected to be warmer in the coming days, as the heat is trapped with lesser sea breeze.
The point to be noted is on Monday the minimum temperature in the core places in Chennai city would be 30 degree Celsius and this was according to the forecast. To avoid getting sunstroke, public must not get exposed to direct sunlight between 11 am and 4 pm in the evening. The temperature was at its peak between 11:15 am and 1 pm and this was got from the day temperature variation.
It has been pointed out by some online live weather tracking sites that there was dense cloud in the areas surrounding Chennai. Over the Chennai city, the sky was clear on Sunday. It is now said that the conditions for the onset of southwest monsoon are becoming favorable and rains in Kerala would decrease the day temperature in Chennai city in the coming weeks.
Meteorological department has predicted that there would be thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 kmph to 40 kmph with lightning at places like Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Virudhunagar etc.
