In the Chennai city, the delay in the work on number of flyovers proposed along the bus routes have resulted in heavy traffic congestion now.
It is revealed that the residents are now complaining about the delay in the civic infrastructure projects. Point to be noted is few years back the then chief minister of TN, Dr. J. Jayalalitha visited R.K. Nagar and inspected the site for the construction of a flyover on the Ennore High Road and Manali Road and approved additional funds for the project. For the Rs 130 crores project, the corporation has issued a work order is known. It must be noted that the construction was supposed to start two years ago but did not start till now.
The neighbourhood in the vicinity have been affected because of the delay in the starting of the project. This was as per a resident. He spoke about how he booked a cab few days back and how the cab was delayed by 45 minutes due to the level crossing. He explained about how the construction of a flyover should have been completed by now. Finally, he hinted about the lack of councillors and how civic officials do not provide any information regarding the flyover construction.
The presence of 2 railway level crossings has been creating issues for the public. It was mentioned by some residents that the 2 railway level crossings have even led to delay in the ambulances en route to tertiary care hospitals. It is now revealed that the government has not given importance to the project after the death of the former chief minister of TN. The metro rail network in the northern Chennai has led to the traffic police refusal to give clearance for the project.
According to an official it is very clear that before the commencement of the work the road has to be closed. He was unhappy about the traffic police personnel not diverting the traffic. The official concluded that work has been completed on an alternative road along the canal in the area 2 weeks back.
Another official pointed out that the high tension lines were coming close to the tops of the buses leading to electromagnetic induction. The height of the cables must be increased and it is the work of the Tangedco officials. He finally explained about how for this purpose of increasing the height an amount of Rs 8 crores have been paid to Tangedco and how the work would begin soon.
It is worthy to note that the work on another bridge at the junction of Anna Salai, Eldams Road and Theyagaraya Road hasn’t started yet. A frequent user of this stretch spoke about how the pedestrian plaza has been delayed.
