This piece of news would bring huge happiness on the faces of the residents of Chennai city who have been facing severe water crisis now.
It is now revealed that the works for transporting Cauvery water from Jolarpet to Chennai is now being done on a war footing. If everything goes as per the plans, then beginning from 7th of July 2019, Chennai city would get 10 mld of water per day. It was later confirmed by some sources that the pipes needed for bringing water has been brought to the site and the work would begin from Monday.
It should be taken into account that a team of 15 engineers belonging to TWAD or Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage and Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewage Board or CMWSSB have been assigned the work of monitoring.
As per a senior official belonging to TWAD, beginning from Monday the works for laying pipeline from Mettuchakkarakuppam to the good yards in Jolarpet railway station would start. He then assured that the pipeline laying work would be carried out in fast manner and everything would get completed before the deadline. He concluded that from 7th of July 2019 work on transporting water to Chennai would be carried out. As per the announcement of the chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, 10 mld water would be moved to CMWSSB facility at Villivakkam by means of wagons from Jolarpet. It is known that amount f Rs 65 crores has been sanctioned for the water supply works.
It was later mentioned by the official of TWAD that the pipelines were laid with a capacity to move 25 mld water but only 10 mld water would be transported to Chennai. The officials later spoke about how it would take not less than 13 hours to fill the wagons with 10 mld water pumped from a storage tank at Mettuchakkarakuppam. It must not be forgotten that earlier chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy’s announcement about transporting water from Jolarpet was opposed by the opposition DMK party. Point is DMK treasurer Mr. Duraimurugan mentioned that it would deprive people of Vellore their water share.
