Chennai was destroyed by cyclone Wardah in the year 2016 is well known. This cyclone has caused the roofs of the MRTS railways stations in Chennai to leak.

It is now revealed that to board the trains at Tirumalai, Kasthuribai Nagar, Perungudi and Taramani stations on the Chennai Beach – Velachery route, the commuters had to go through puddles of water (due to recent rains) in these stations.

The information is the southern railways has not yet cleared the pending amount of Rs 1.5 crores to the contractor who was in-charge of renovation of roofs belonging to these above said MRTS stations in Chennai. This was as per the southern railway sources.

It is brought out that the work would be resuming from next week as the issue has been solved now. This was as per a source. Every day, around 11 lakh commuters use this line to reach their places of destinations in Chennai. Just few months back only the repair and renovation works began on the roofs of these MRTS stations though the roofs were damaged by the cyclone Wardah in 2016 itself.

It must be noted that in Tirumailai and Kasthuribhai Nagar some portions of works have been completed now. Some 30 % roof renovation work was completed in Tirumailai station but the remaining part of the roof had holes and through these holes rainwater has leaked in. It is important to note that MRTS section is grappling with the payment of bills for track maintenance and for the power supply for lights and fans.
