With the unmanageably the increasing trend of air-passengers and goods at the present Chennai Metro City airport, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has decided to set up the 2nd airport in the city.
On this basis, the preliminary activities for setting up the airport in a suburban area near the Chennai Metro City.
The officials are presently engaged in selecting the locations suitable for this.
The officials have decided to have a selection of places located within 80 km from Chennai.
AAI officials informed that 2 places - the location between Maamandur and Cheyyur and Paranthur located between Kanchipuram and Arkonam.
The Airport Authority of India had already ordered the state government of Tamil Nadu to select the right place with a minimum area of 1500 to 2000 acres as required for setting up an airport.
The 2 places mentioned above are the selection made by the Tamil Nadu State government and forwarded to AAI.
