As a repercussion of shifting of the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market, the prices of vegetable have shot up in Chennai Metro city!

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) was constrained to close the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market as it happened to be a large-scale infection centre of the raging coronavirus spreading it to even other districts lying away! GCC has made temporary arrangements for the wholesale vegetable market to be shifted to Thirumazhisai.

In this situation, the retailers have started selling their stock at higher prices! This has caused doubling in the prices of most vegetables!

As travelling up to Thirumazhisai to procure vegetable will cost travel charges as well, in order to save time, travel, and money the retailers tend to sell these vegetables at the higher rates!

In this regard, broad-beans (Avaraikkai) which was selling at Rs. 60 per kg is now being sold at Rs. 100 per kg!

The price of green chili has gone up from Rs. 40 per kg to Rs. 100 per kg!

The price of lady’s finger – okra or vendaikkai – has gone up from Rs. 30 per kg to Rs. 60 per kg!
