Many pedestrians cross the roads at various points instead of the pedestrian crossing points and this has been creating many traffic issues and accidents in OMR in Chennai.

Soon, this issue would not be there in OMR as TNRDC or Tamil Nadu Road Development Company has started the work of increasing the median height on the 12.75 km stretch of Rajiv Gandhi Salai/OMR. Jaywalking between Madhya Kailash and Ramanujam IT Park Junction would be avoided.

Near the Indira Nagar Bridge, there is a traffic signal along with pedestrian crossing. Mant pedestrians d not use this crossing but they just climb over the median to reach the other side of the road creating issues. As per a source belonging to TNSRDC it was revealed that this climbing over the median could result in road accidents in the peak hours of time. Damaged and rusty old blue pipes would be removed and they would be replaced by stainless steel grills.

An official then pointed out that similar type of grills has been put to use in the city of Chennai by other departments too. This important work to prevent accidents in the peak hours in OMR would be over in a period of 1 months and it would cost an amount of Rs 1.92 crores.

A resident belonging to Kandanchavadi spoke about how driving at nights along this stretch was difficult due to the presence of trees and how median must be lit in better way fr ensuring safety of pedestrian and  motorists.
