As a preventive measure against corona spread, time at signals reduced to 60 seconds!

The waiting time for the change of traffic signals has been reduced to 60 seconds as a preventive measure to prevent the public from coronavirus infection during a longer waiting period for change of traffic signal.

Since the last few weeks, there has been a raging coronavirus spread in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Presently, the number of coronavirus-affected persons in Chennai Metro City is 72,500.

Lockdown condition is currently prevailing until 31st July. Still, giving due importance/consideration for the people’s lifeline. The state government of Tamil Nadu announced a few relaxations 2 days ago.

Subsequently, there were overwhelming crowds in all the busy sots in the Chennai Metro City! The number of vehicles abounded on the main roads!

In this scenario, there was an apprehension among the public that there are strong prospects getting an infection while waiting for longer durations (more than 60 seconds) at the traffic signal points

In this scenario, there was apprehension among the public that waiting longer than 60 seconds in the traffic signals may increase the prospects of the coronavirus infection.

Subsequently, it has been planned to reduce the waiting time to 60 seconds in the 405 signal points in Chennai Metro City.

The waiting time for a change of signal has been reduced to 60 seconds in 10 signal points in Chennai Metro City from today (Thursday, 9th July) ON A TRIAL BASIS.

The traffic police have been emphasized the view that this would reduce the vehicles being close to one another and would help prevent prospects of infection through this. They have been advised to reduce the waiting time at signal points.
