According to market vendors, there would be an increase of 10 to 15 % in the prices of the vegetables this week. It is now brought out that supply issues from neighbouring states, rains and crop cycles would be the factors that would be responsible for the increase.
Secretary of Koyambedu Wholesale Market Merchants Association, Mr. Sukumaran mentioned that the supply has gone down now as many crops are at the end of their crop cycle.
He added that the rains have also resulted in the decline of the supply from neighbouring states like Karnataka. There might be a 10 to 15 percent rise in the prices of vegetables in the coming one week. Later on, the prices would flatten. Mr. Sukumaran then hinted that the prices of fruits would ale become more. In the last week, tomatoes were sold at Rs 40 to Rs 50 and in this week the prices might increase.
