On Saturday, the Kasimedu fishing harbour was crowded and it created many issues. Now, to avoid this overcrowding, the timings at this market have been changed.

Beginning from 3am in the morning till 8am, fish would be sold to the mid sized retailers and wholesalers. At the demarcated bays, the boats would be parked and just 3 persons including the owner would be allowed per boat to sell fish. The rest would have to be on the craft till the sales get over. This was according to Mr. D. Jayakumar, minister for fisheries.

Information is that the sale of catch from boats arriving after 8am would be allowed only the next day. In the batches of 150 persons, wholesalers as well as retailers would be allowed to enter the harbour.

It was brought out by an official source that a total of 800 passes have been issued. He added that on Tuesday a trial for boats was observed and it was fine. To suit the needs of the customer, timings have been changed.

Mr. M.E. Raghumathi, fisherman leader stated that fishermen were more concerned about their livelihood and not about protecting their families from the Coronavirus infection. The fishermen were worried about increasing hunger in their families.
