Not many would have heard about Kuthambakkam in Chennai till now. Soon, this place near Thirumazhisai would be buzzing with people and it would be grabbing the attention of many.
Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority or CMDA would begin the construction works at Kuthambakkam near Thirumazhisai and by this Chennai city’s fourth mofussil bus stand would become a reality. Truth is people travelling towards western districts in TN would be able to catch their buses here.
Chennai city already has 3 mofussil bus terminus namely CMBT Koyambedu, Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus, Kilambakkam Mofussil Bus Terminus. Information gathered is the first mentioned 2 bus terminuses are already functioning and the works on the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus has started.
It was pointed out by an official that the project was proposed in the Assembly. He explained about the preparation of a detailed project report or DPR and feasibility report by appointing consultants. The floating of tenders for inviting contractors was carried out after the DPR has been finalised. Before the end of September, the tenders would be finalised.
It is common knowledge that CMBT in Koyambedu has been highly congested due to traffic as many MTC buses as well as mofussil buses are being operated. The plan to construct a fourth mofussil bus terminus at Kuthambakkam was to decongest CMBT. For the new bus terminus, the planning authority has already availed environmental clearance.
An amount of Rs 308 crores would be spent for the construction of new mofussil bus terminus at Kuthambakkam in Chennai. This new bus terminus would be built on 3.49lakh sq m of land off Chennai-Bengaluru highway.
After the completion, the bus terminus would be able to accommodate as many as 165 government buses and 35 omni buses. Information is that a MTC bus terminus has also been proposed under the project on land parcel extending 7.4acres adjacent to the new mofussil bus terminus.
