People have started using MTC bus services in Chennai city once again after the services resumed n 1st September. The news is that an amount of Rs 10 crores has been collected from the passengers.

Till Friday, more than 1.23 crores passengers have used MTC buses in Chennai to reach their places of destinations. It was stated by the release from MTC that on 1st September around 6 lakh commuters used MTC bus services in Chennai.

The number of MTC buses has increased now. Important information is every day there are 2400 MTC buses now available for the passengers. The statement mentioned that Rs 10crrores has been collected as the ticket fares from the commuters.

It is common knowledge that the TN government had permitted the MTC to operate bus services to neighbouring districts. This has resulted in around 10 lakhs commutes using the MTC bus services.

Truth is passengers now use MTC buses more from places like Tambaram, Chengalpet, Guduvanchery, Minjur, Ambattur and Avadi etc. The reason for this was the southern railways have not yet started the local train services. On the routes where more passengers use the MTC buses, there would be additional buses. Instruction regarding this has been issued to the branch managers.

The release from MTC also brought out that the branch managers must ensure frequent disinfection of the MTC buses plus provide hand sanitizers, facemasks, gloves to the drivers and conductors. Information collected is that persons who do not wear facemasks would not be allowed to travel in the MTC buses.
