There would be compulsory weekly off for the police personnel in TN

The news that has come out now is that except in Chennai the personnel working in the police department in TN would get mandatory weekly offs.
Mr. Rajesh Das is special DGP (Law and Order) and he had issued instructions to all the District Superintendents of Police and City police Commissioner’s under his jurisdiction to sanction the weekly offs.
It must be noted that the weekly offs exist even now but many police personnel work on their weekly offs for overtime money as weekly offs are not compulsory in the city. This has been clarified by some police officers in Chennai. The police personnel are entitled for a day’s leave after working for 6 days. This was according to the service rules.
In this 2020, there have been many deaths in the police department in TN due to issues like Coronavirus, suicides etc and the decision to have compulsory weekly offs has come at this point of time.
When pointed out that weekly off was long pending demand of the constabulary, a senior police officer mentioned that the department was not doing any charity and the police personnel have the right to take a weekly off. It is now said that the weekly offs would be allotted on different days of a week.
