It is now said that the work on phase-2 of Chennai city’s Peripheral Ring Road or PRR would start in another 3 months of time. Information is that the tenders are under process for the 2 packages for the 25.5km stretch from Thatchur Koot Road to Thiruvallur bypass now.
According to an official source belonging to TN Road Infrastructure Development Company or TNRIDC, the work would be expected to begin from February 2021and it would be through engineering-procurement construction mode. In the next month, the tenders would be called for phase-3. It must be taken into account that TNRIDC is implementing the project from Thatchur Koot Road to Ponneri near Mamallapuram.
Point is the road on the stretch would have 6 lanes in the main carriageway and 2 service lanes on either side. It is mentioned that a 100 member strong team of revenue officers was working to complete land acquisition for the road. The road would take 3 years to be built. Handing over the land to the contractors would be possible as per the schedule. It is worthy to note that the alignment for the project was frozen in the year 2014 when DPR was approved and it remains the same. This was as per an official.
