People using MTC buses in Chennai to go to their places of destination could feel relieved now!!
Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC would be operating209 more buses to prevent overcrowding in the buses. From the month of March till September, MTC bus services were suspended in Chennai to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic is well known to us.
After the resumption of MTC services in September, there has been a drastic fall in patronage and as a result MTC operated limited services only. The fleet strength of MTC is 3300 buses and every day about 2300 buses were operated. The TN government had announced relaxations and after that the patronage increased. The information is that MTC had decided to operate additional 209 buses for the sake of passengers. The additional buses would be along with the existing 2300 buses.
As per an official belonging to MTC it was clear that the additional MTC bus services would address the passengers complaints regarding overcrowding. He then pointed out that overcrowding was mostly among the suburban train routes.
It is known that the operations of suburban trains were not fully restored and the buses plying along the routes were overcrowded. Additional MTC buses are being operated now in Avadi- Ambattur stretches on the MTH Road and Guduvanchery- Tambaram areas also. The poor patronage has also led to MTC withdrawing 9 buses in 9 routes.
Information collected is 2 deluxe buses plying in 104A between Avadi and Tambaram via Chennai Bypass and 3 deluxe buses 47D SP from Avadi to Tiruvamniyur were withdrawn by MTC.
