K.K. Nagar in Chennai to become more green now

In the future, tree species like neem , novel, nagalingam, almond etc would be seen in plenty in K.K. Nagar in Chennai. Thanks to the GCC!!

It is well known that GCC has been taking many efforts to make Chennai greener with the view that the trees would provide lots of benefits for the residents. Mini-forests have been developed by GCC in a few places in Chennai using the Miyawaki method.

On Tuesday, Mr G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner made many heads turn when he planted saplings and reviewed the ongoing efforts to grow a mini-forest at a vacant space on the Ashok Pillar Road, K.K. Nagar. This was done under the urban forest initiative.

On the vacant plots, waterways and on the outlying areas belonging to GCC, dense green landscaping has been developed by GCC using the Miyawaki urban forest system. Yesterday, in a landscape of 6450 sq ft land in K.K. Naga, GCC officials planted as many as 1650 saplings of 30 different types. An amount of Rs 9.85 lakhs have been spent on this.

It was brought out by a release from the Chennai Corporation that they have used traditional species like neem, novel, nagalingam, guava, almond, spotodia and bamboo to create Miyawaki type dense forest.

Other localities in Chennai where GCC has planted saplings using Miyawaki method are 2000 saplings on 20724 sq ft land in Kotturpuram, 762 saplings on 6000 sq ft of land in Valasaravakkam and 2800 saplings on the15586 sq ft of land on Model School Road in Sholinganallur.
