The rules like maintaining social distance and wearing facemasks has gone for a toss now in Chennai!!

It is well known that from March 2020 the Chennai residents have been forced to stay in their houses to avoid Coronavirus infection. The New Year celebrations have broken the Coronavirus rules in Chennai. Fact is that the malls, beaches and temples in Chennai were crowded and this despite the restrictions. Chennai residents were not bothered about the new mutant strain or about the looming threat of Covid-19 infection etc and they flocked the above said places in huge numbers.

The locals gathered at the beaches to have a glimpse of the first sunrise of the year. It is well known that GCC had issued strict warnings about the public gatherings at beaches on the eve of the New Year or on the day of the New Year. In the wee hours, groups of families and friends were seen dipping in the beach waves. The residents flouted rules like maintaining social distancing and face mask wearing etc in the fun.

At the highly famous T. Nagar based Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam temple, many people came to have darshan and they did not maintain social distancing norms. The scenario was similar at the Mylapore tank where many locals shopped and crowded around the temple. Police personnel had a tough time in controlling the crowd.

It was brought out by a street vendor that the business that has been poor for many months was good in the last week.
