The latest news is that in this week, the wholesale prices of the vegetables would increase by Rs 2 to Rs 3 per kg in Chennai.  The price of veggies did not exceed Rs 25 at the Koyambedu market complex in Chennai and some green vegetables were available for just Rs 10 per kg also.

Information from the sources is that the prices of onions and potato were between Rs 20 and Rs 22 per kg. Last week, vegetables like carrot and tomato were available for Rs 22 per kg.  The price of cabbage was Rs 10 per kg and this was also the price for beetroot and chow chow etc. After the price fell by Rs 10 to Rs 15 per kg, beans were available for Rs 25 per kg and this was the lowest in the last 5 months of time. The shortage in the arrivals has increased the prices of vegetables like carrots and onions in recent times and they were sold for more than Rs 100 per kg also.

The arrival of vegetables to the market would reduce in this week and this was according to Mr. Chandran, secretary of Federation of Wholesale Market Associations. He added that in December due to the arrivals the cost of vegetables were low. It is mentioned that in this week there might be partial revision in the vegetable prices as the arrivals to Chennai is expected to reduce. It must be noted that in the other states the market offerings for the same commodity better prices could attract additional veggies.
