The Aavin milk consumers in the city of Chennai have been paying more now!!

It is well known that two major political parties in TN have been assuring the people regarding the reduction in the milk prices after they get elected to power. In this situation, the consumers are made to pay 0.50 paisa more than the maximum retail price per packet.

According to the Aavin milk consumers, the retailers in some places have been mentioning the revision in the prices from 1st March and the packet prices have gone up by 0.50 paisa or Rs 1 each.

A Villivakkam resident expressed his unhappiness about the Aavin milk price hike and said he was surprised to see the sudden increase in the price of the Aavin milk packet. He explained that there was no formal announcement about the price increase. It must be noted that the milk prices were not increased and this was according to some Aavin officials.

A resident from Mylapore brought out that many shopkeepers sold Aavin milk above the MRP and it was unfair. He concluded that overcharging has now become usual practice and the prices increase as per the shopkeepers.

Truth is that the shopkeepers do not overcharge in case of private milk brands. The shopkeepers were forced to sell milk above the retail price as they got milk at MRP from Aavin retailers. It was later highlighted by a shopkeeper from Velachery that by selling other items like bread, eggs etc profit was got.

It was later brought to light by Mr. Kamaraj, TN Milk Retailers and Employees Welfare Association that they were forced to supply at above MRP rates to shops as they got just Re 1 per packet from wholesalers who got Rs 2 per packet. He explained about the profit received by the milk retailers.

Information is that dealers have been demanding that Aavin do away with the system of wholesale business. Mr. Kamraj hinted that the private brands deal just through the retailers and this reduces the commission that is given to various persons down the chain. He concluded that by this the customers would get benefited.
