A detailed feasibility study for decongesting the roads belonging to Chennai is being carried out by the state highways department and this would be completed soon. The traffic on the Chennai roads has been an issue for quite some time and many efforts are being taken to decongest traffic. It is now brought out that the state highways department might be constructing a bund road along the Adyar River from Thiru Vi- Ka Bridge to Maraimalai Adigal Bridge. It is learnt that the state highways department has also proposed 3 elevated structures from Halda junction to Light House via Sardar Patel Road, Adyar, Greenways Road and Santhome High Road etc.

Chinnamalai and Velachery Bypass would be connected by an elevated road and another would take off at Vadapalani and land in Porur. According to a senior officer belonging to the state highways department, a consultant has been appointed to prepare the detailed feasibility report and the report is now in the final stages of completion. Information is that by March 2022, the detailed feasibility report would be available. It is now mentioned that after the feasibility study work completion preparation of a detailed project report or DPR would start.

It must be taken into account that the only alternative way to decongest the arterial stretches would be through elevated roads. Whether the proposed elevated roads are viable or not would only be known after the feasibility report study. The senior officer belonging to the state highways department later spoke about how Chennai metro rails phase 2 works has been going on and how some of the elevated stretches would have alignment issues that would be sorted out. The state highways department is also studying the feasibility of building a flyover at Ambattur telephone exchange, Basin Bridge junction on Walltax Road, Ambedkar College at Vyasarpadi etc.
