In the coming days, the help line of GCC 1019 will become very busy!!
Objections to property tax revisions would be accepted by GCC in its helpline 1913 as many residents have given complaints. After receiving notices for property tax revision, nearly 500 Chennai residents have sent their objections to GCC now. It must be noted that as many as 6lakhs notices have been sent by post to various property tax assesses for general revision. It is known that Chennai currently has more than 12 lakh properties. Information is that GCC has started assessing the petitions received from residents.
A meeting took place between Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, GCC Commissioner and the Revenue Department officers for redressing the grievances of residents after the revision of property taxes.
Mr. Vishu Mahajan, GCC deputy commissioner (Revenue and Finance) was busy in a meeting with the regional deputy commissioners. He discussed the procedure that must be followed to dispose of the petitions by the property tax assesses. It is noteworthy that objections when there was an issue with respect to usage and area would be accepted.
For an area of 600 sq ft and below, property tax would be increased by 50percent in the core city. The cases would be dealt with merit where if the area is 400 sq ft and the property tax increase is 100percent. The petition would be rejected when the increase factor has been applied as per the government order plus when there was no dispute on the property area.
Truth is that soon a separate category would be created for the sake of property tax general revision based complaints by 1913 helpline and public grievance redress application. It is brought out that another category of complaints pertaining to usage would be accepted. This was according to Mr. Vishu Mahajan.
