To make the parks in Chennai more inclusive and safer for the residents, the gender lab of GCC is now expecting feedback from the public on their experience regarding using the parks.
The last date for the survey has been extended now until 16th of September 2022. Point is that the online survey has received nearly 500 responses till now. D. Sneha, deputy commissioner, education, mentioned that GCC has been planning to get feedback from as many people as possible.
It is known that the survey had 15 questions and they were about the details of the survey participants. There were also questions regarding purpose of use, frequency of use, favourite features, suggestions for making the parks more welcoming, suggestions for making the parks safe etc.
As many as 150 new parks would be coming up in Chennai in the future and the feedback from the people would be used to develop the new parks. The new parks would be developed under the Singara Chennai project.
Discussions were organised by Gender Labs from GCC with several stakeholders and the feedback has been collected as a part of the discussions. The stakeholders consisted of self help groups & non-governmental organisations etc. D. Sneha revealed that many interesting suggestions were received. She added that one feedback that was different was about the GCC operated gyms that were unfriendly for the women. It must be taken into note that the equipment installed in these gyms was mostly used by men. The GCC is expecting more such feedback from a larger population.
Many private players have not done their work as expected by GCC and they have failed to maintain the parks according to the stipulated standards. These private players have been getting punished by GCC. Information is that out of a total of 738 parks maintained by GCC as many as 571 parks have been outsourced by private players.
