Whats surprising about the COVID mega vaccination drive that was held on Sunday in TN?

On Sunday, 11th September 2022, 36th Covid-19 mega vaccination drive took place across the state of Tamil Nadu. In this month, mega vaccination drives would be held every Sunday to administer the precautionary booster dose to the public. Yesterday, across the state, as many as12.62 lakh doses of vaccination was administered. Out of the total of 12.62 lakhs, 61202 first doses, 2.98 lakhs second doses of vaccination and 9.02lakhs of precautionary vaccination doses were administered.

It is worthy to note that in TN as many as96.49 lakhs persons above the age of 18 have been given first vaccination dose and 91.09 percent were given 2 doses of vaccinations.

Till now in the previous 35 mega vaccination camps in Tamil Nadu, 5.22 crores doses of vaccinations have been administered.  

The surprising fact is that till now, just 18.92% of the eligible population have been administered with the precautionary booster doses. As many as 7968331 persons have been benefited with the booster dose in Tamil Nadu. 

On the 30th of September 2022, the free precautionary booster dose vaccination gets over and just frontline workers and those above the age of 60 would be administered with the free booster doses thereafter. A total of 93.46% beneficiaries have been covered in the age group between 12 and 14 with 19.82 lakhs of first doses of vaccines given.

Information collected is that in the same age group between 12 and 14, 15.31lakhs of second vaccination doses have been administered. This accounts to 72.21 percent of the beneficiaries.
