Toilets are being constructed in the public places in Chennai under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Now, GCC has set 31st of October as the last day for completing all the construction works. The administrative delays have resulted in the delay of opening of the toilets in Chennai whose construction works have been fully completed.
In all the 285 locations in Chennai, the construction works must be completed by 31st of October 202 and this was instructed by the GCC Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi. It must be noted that the GCC Commissioner has given orders to the officials about opening those toilets whose construction works have been completed. He spoke about how necessary action would be taken on the 26 toilets situated in localities like Royapuram, Ambattur, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Adyar, Perungudi and Sholinganallur zones where the construction works haven`t yet started.
Not only this, GCC is also undertaking the construction of 287 e-toilets in several localities in Chennai and out of that construction of 267 is in progress now. Point is that some of the new mobile toilets in various places like Ambattur High Road, Pari Salai, Basin Bridge Road etc are nor functioning well.
It is worthy to note that the design used for these new mobile toilets have been used already by the previous government and they had failed to take off. The issues in these mobile toilets are lack of space and absence of water connection.
A toilet has been constructed near the Royapuram zonal office but it has been lying closed and this was brought out by a civic activist. He added that taxpayers` money has been wasted in constructing these small toilets that do not have enough space for a well grown adult. As per a resident from Paneer Nagar it was clear that the toilets near 7H bus stand were not opened for a month now.
