In a meeting that took place in the secretariat in Chennai 3 days back, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin has given his approval for the proposal of expanding CMA or Chennai Metropolitan Area. In a few weeks, a GO is expected regarding this. When the meeting took place in the Secretariat the CM reviewed the proposal in detail. Many important persons who took part in the meeting were officers belonging to GCC, CMDA and state housing and urban development secretary Mr. Hitesh Kumar Makhawana etc. He hinted that the proposal would be sent to the law department as the chief minister has given his approval. Point is that it would take a month for the law department to review and release an order.
It is learnt that the TN government has decided to expand the CMA up to 5904kms. The CUMTA or Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (based on the decision of the government) has also taken steps to update the CMP or Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Chennai to cover expanded areas. Whole of Kancheepuram, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur districts would be encompassed in the expanded CMA. There are only some parts of these neighbouring districts under CMA now is well known. The master plans adns mobility plans have been prepared for CMA now that is just 1189 sq kms.
It must not be forgotten that earlier rth TN had proposed to expand CMA to cover 8878 sqkm to cover some parts of Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts too. The plan was revised after holding meetings with the stakeholders.
