In Chromepet in southern Chennai, wet mix patchwork on the roads have damaged the roads. Many residents here are totally unhappy regarding this. It must be noted that the small gravel chips laid to fill the patches have spread all over the road and create issues for the public. The gravel chips have been making walking very difficult for many. The road has been in poor conditions for a long time now.
As per a resident of Chromepet, the local body must provide basic amenities for the public. No roads have been re-laid here though roads have been upgraded. The NE monsoon is nearing now and the GCC authorities are busy with the drainage works and they don`t have time for road re-laying works etc. Lack of funds has been cited as the reason by GCC for not relaying the roads now.
Point to be noted is that the GCC authorities have approached the government for funds of Rs 50 crores for relaying the roads. Another resident spoke about how the tyres of vehicles get punctured while driving on the roads. He added that many senior citizens walk barefoot on the roads and they find it tough to walk on the wet mix of patched roads.
