Strict action would be taken against those persons who dump construction and demolition waste at the unauthorised locations especially on the roads, water bodies, river banks and in the secluded places in Chennai. This was mentioned by TNPCB or Tamil Nadu pollution Control Board.
It was brought to light by TNPCB in a press release that in 2016 C & D waste management rules were notified. It was dumped haphazardly or transported without proper coverage and necessary precautionary measures.
All the bulk waste generators as well as the line departments have been issued instructions already by TNPCB to avoid violations. Point is that GCC provided facilities for processing the C & D waste of 400 tons per day each in places like Perungudi and Kodungaiyur.
It is now said that the violators would be booked under the provisions of the Environment Protection Act 1986 and Air (Prevention and Control) Act, 1981 as amended.
