In the future, if you come across a 6-lane elevated corridor from Tambaram to Chengapet, then don`t be surprised!!

In a year`s time, the work to construct a 6-lane Tambaram to Chengalpet elevated corridor on the GST Road for Rs 3500 crores would begin. Now, DPR is getting ready and last minute changes are being made. This was according to some sources from NHAI or National Highways Authority of India. In one or two months, tenders would be called for the project.

It is learnt that the basic DPR regarding from where the 6-lane elevated corridor work would begin and land and details about the number of arms etc are ready. Now, an opinion from the TN government is awaited.

The benefit of the 6-lane elevated corridor would be that it would help add an additional carriageway to the busy stretch that allows traffic from Chennai to reach southern palecs in Tamil Nadu. It must be noted that the corridor would begin from Perungalathur and would end just beyond the Paranur toll plaza.

A bus terminus is coming up at Kilambakkam is well known to us . Now  ramps have been planned near this new bus terminus near Potheri railway station,Mahindra World City and at Guduvanchery.

Currently, the road witnesses about 1.53 lakh vehicles every day and it is now said that the projected traffic in the year 2030 for the elevated corridor would be 63605. In the year 2040, the number would increase to 106317.

It is known to us that the elevated corridor is part of phase-1 of the proposed Tambaram-Tindivanam stretch. The 28km long corridor would be completed in about 3 years of time. It would be on a single pier along the median. The traffic diversion would not be an issue due to the presence of 8 lane space present below.
