Superb news!! At Egmore railway station, re-development works have started now!!

Geotechnical investigation, topographical survey and utilities shifting etc are going on now at the famous 114 year old Egmore railway station in Chennai. This railway station would be re-developed and an amount of Rs 735 cr would be spent on this redevelopment.
It is now said that to cope up with the ever increasing passenger volumes plus to provide better infrastructural facilities for the passengers Egmore railway station would be re-developed.
According to an official release, the SR has awarded the redevelopment work at the Egmore station as EPC contract to DEC Infrastructure Projects India Pvt Ltd, a Hyderabad based firm, on 7th of October. A time span of 36months was set to complete the redevelopment works at this famous railway station. It must be noted that the Tata Consulting engineers have been given the task of project management services and project monitoring works retc
At both Gandhi Irwin (main entrance) and EVR Periyar Salai, the Egmore railway station redevelopment is planned. After redevelopment work gets over, Egmore railway station would have an iconic structure with modern state of art facilities. The heritage value of the present structure would also be there at the railway station.
In future, there would be new station buildings along the both sides of the station and arrival/departure concourses. The visitors coming to the station would be delighted to see a big lounge and food court here at the departure terminal in the future. In addition, 2 multi level parking complexes would come up on both sides.
