Winners of a Hackathon will help police fight cybercrime

Chennai City Police will employ the knowledge of students who won the Chennai City Police cyber hackathon to develop their in-house applications.

On Monday, the hackathon`s closing ceremony was conducted at Anna University, with cash prizes awarded to the top three teams.

According to police, 302 teams from various colleges took part in the Cyber hackathon.

The first prize (Rs 50,000) went to the VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) team, while the second and third prizes (Rs 30,000) went to Coimbatore-based KPR Institute of Technology and City-based Sathyabama Institute of Technology, respectively (Rs 20,000).

Following the distribution of the prize money, Chennai city police commissioner Shankar Jiwal stated that the city police intends to hold cybercrime competitions in cyber forensics in February as well.
