On Wednesday, 28th December 2022, GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation gave its approval to set up an Eco park and bio CMG park at Perungudi dumpyard in Chennai.

The objectives behind this approval was to address the waste management in Chennai plus to make solid waste management effective by means of scientific intervention. Soon, in Chennai bio-mining method would be followed by the solid waste management department. It is well known that this dpt has been clearing the garbage in the city using its staff and contract firms etc.

It is learnt that GCC would be playing its role in setting up an eco park, a mega bio CNG plant, composting plant and mega automated facilities etc. Yesterday, a resolution adopted by the corporation council was read.

A copy of resolution revealed about the bio-mining of fresh waste accumulated in Perungudi in the reclaimed land, demarcation of boundary, preparation of the site layout showing the existing SWM facility etc. Point is that new SWM facilities would be coming up at Perungudi dumping ground and TNUIFSL would facilitate the project.

For requesting the appointment of a transaction advisory consultant for the services associated with the eco park and reclaimed land of Perungudi dumpyard, a letter was sent to the MD of TNUIFSL.

It must be noted that the GCC has been requested by TNUIFSL to submit the resolution for the govt firm to take up the project further. Information is that the project would be developed on public- private participation model and the aim would be to reduce the garbage mounds in Perungudi
