In Chennai, there are several roads that are not smooth for motorists and pedestrians etc. These roads have lots of potholes etc and create issues for many. This has been leading to many accidents in the city. Patch work has been delayed in many roads and interior streets in Chennai.  Those damaged roads in Chennai have not been relaid for more than 5 years have been identified by GCC.

From the end of January, phase one road relaying work would be carried out by GCC. Even before the onset of monsoons, GCC authorities have carried out road patch works across the city. It must be noted that unlike regular patch works in the past jet patch works were done in the city. This is nothing but an automatic pothole filling machine that has been used only in Pune. Now, this is being used to remove potholes in Chennai too. This was as per the chief engineer of GCC General S. Rajendiran

Many main roads and interior roads that were damaged in the NE monsoons have been identified now by the civic body. This is apart from the roads that are more than 5 years old.  The important piece of information is that for around 1700km as many as 8000 roads in Chennai would be relaid. Huge amount of Rs 1020 cr has been allotted for this important work in Chennai city.

The road relaying work would be carried out in a phased manner. For phase one work, Rs 45 cr has been allotted and for the next phase an estimated amount of Rs 80 cr is yet to be sanctioned. After the resolution gets passed in the upcoming meeting, the work would be executed. It was brought to light by data from GCC that atleast 19000 sqm have been identified tentatively and of that 3600 sqm have been completed.
