The students belonging to the History dept of the Government Kalaimagal Arts College at Gudiyattam in Vellore district Tamil Nadu are unhappy now.
The reason for that was due to the fact that the discovery would become useless. It is really superb to mention here that the 3 hero stones of 400 years old were discovered by the studnets of this college. The sources have mentioned that if the officials do not take any action then these hero stones might end up as drain covers also.
At the base of a hillock at Rangamapettai in Gundlapalli village panchayat near Pernambut, the college students and few locals found these three hero stones.
It must be noted that for 2 days 25 students from History dept of this college worked adns they were guided by the HOD Dr. K. Vijayarangan and assistant professor Mr. S. Jayavel. On Thursday, their efforts bore fruit when they finally excavated the stones with the assistance from JCB. Information is that the 3 hero stones belonged to 16th century Nayak period. Turmeric and kumkum were applied on these stones by the students due to the fact that hero stones were related to ancestor worship that has been the part of the culture.
The professor Mr. Jayavel spoke about how the stones would be informed to the Vellore govt museum curator Mr. Saravanan and how he wanted fast action to be taken. If no action was taken then these 3 hero stones would meet the same fate of the previously discovered stones that were used as drain covers.
It was explained by the museum curator Mr. Saravanan that proper procedure for the discoverers( under the Indian Treasure Trove Act 1899) would be to inform the district collector. He added that the collector would then issue orders regarding what action was needed.
