Inspite of many steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government to stop the students from travelling in the footboards in the MTC buses in Chennai, there are many students who still travel on the footboards risking their lives.

In this scenario, the managing director MTC Mr. A. Anbu Abraham has sent a circular. It was mentioned in the circular that some school and college students travel in the MTC buses by hanging on the bus stairs. The circular added that the drivers as well as the conductors must stop the bus if they find the students travelling on the footboards or hanging on the bus stairs or attempting to travel in an unsafe manner.

It must be taken into account that if the students do not follow the instructions the drivers and conductors must stop the bus safely on the side of the road without causing any disturbance to the traffic and must inform the nearest police station or call emergency number 100 or metropolitan transport corporation and file a complaint. It was also mentioned in the circular that it was the duty of the drivers and conductors of the MTC buses to ensure the safety of the students in the MTC buses.
