In the future, the lives of residents in Chennai won`t be easy for sure!!

The shocking piece of news that has now come out is that in the coming years Chennai would face extreme weather events like unseasonal rains etc. this was confirmed by some researchers belonging to the popular Anna University or AU.

Point is that these researchers have found high variations in this year`s minimum temp, maximum temp and diurnal temp or the difference between the maximum and minimum temp on the same day. The researchers compared with last decades average. The maximum and minimum temp has increased or reduced in the last 4 months of the year when compared to the fluctuations found for decade average. This was mentioned by a weather data taken from 2011 to 2022. It was brought to light that factors like El Nino and other climate change impacts etc were responsible for this.

The decadal average of minimum temp from last week of January till 8th of February ranged between 21 and 22. Information is that in 2023 the decadal average of minimum temp ranged between 24 to 27. It is noteworthy that the decadal average temp in the first week of May month is around 37 degrees Celsius. The decadal avg temp varied below average ranging from 31 to 33 in 2023. It was 35 on March 24th and in 2023 it was 32 degrees.

It is learnt that the variation in the temp has been high in 2023 and the fluctuations would continue in the coming years also.

According to Prof A. Ramachandran from Anna University in Chennai, it was clear that the residents in Chennai would have to face the extreme highs and lows in the temperature, unusual rains, untimely drought, health issues and biodiversity loss if  the fluctuations continue. He then spoke about how the temperature dip was as low as 22 degrees Celsius in February and sudden rise as high as 38.5 degrees Celsius for 5 to 7 days in the month of April. In future, the health and ecosystem stress would be more.
