New look classrooms in the schools in zones like Teynampet, Anna Nagar, Royapuram, Adyar etc!!

Before commencing the work of giving a makeover to the schools in Chennai, Chennai Mayor Priya along with the new GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan and others visited the schools on Friday, 26th May 2023. An amount of Rs 50 crores would be spent by the GCC to develop the infrastructure at the schools. It is known that 139 schools have been merged in the added areas in Chennai.

Yesterday, the Chennai Mayor made her presence felt in the schools belonging to Ward 186 in Perungudi, Ward 189 in Narayanapuram, Ward 191 in Jalladianpet, Ward 188 in Pallikaranai, Ward  181in Kottivakkam etc. The estimates have confirmed that more than 300 classrooms present in 418 schools have been damaged and they need maintenance.

According to an official from GCC, Rs 35 cr would be spent for developing classrooms in the peripheral places. In the core Chennai zones such as Teynampet, Anna Nagar, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Kodambakkam and Adyar etc, classrooms would be developed at a cost of Rs 15 crores.

As per the estimate, it was clear that the total number of students studying in the 418 schools is 1.35lakhs after the merger. Point is that 279 schools have been located in the core city places and 139 schools have been located in the peripheral areas. These schools were handed over to the Chennai Corporation. The residents from Ambattur now want renovation of school buildings.

It must be recalled that a year back a school in Chavadi Street in Korattur, ward no 84 was upgraded into higher secondary school.
