Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal unveiled a significant expansion of the city`s surveillance network on Thursday. A total of 424 high-definition CCTV cameras were inaugurated at over 130 locations in Adyar, T Nagar, and St Thomas Mount areas, further bolstering the existing network of cameras.
The installation of these cameras was made possible through the collaborative efforts of traffic and law enforcement officials, the general public, and private businesses operating under police supervision. Velachery, Sastri Nagar, and Thiruvanmiyur police station limits received a substantial allocation of the new cameras, with 150 cameras installed in each area. To monitor the CCTV footage effectively, separate control rooms equipped with internet connectivity were established at three police stations.
The event witnessed the presence of Additional Commissioner of Police, South, Prem Anand Sinha, Joint Commissioner of Police, South MR Sibi Chakravarthi, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar, P Mahendran. This enhanced surveillance infrastructure aims to enhance public safety and aid in the prevention and detection of crime throughout Chennai.
