Both the government as well as the private hospitals in Chennai are having many patients now. The reason for that is due to the viral fever spread in Chennai. At present, several cases of respiratory illness plus dengue fever in the kids plus Chikungunya etc have been reported in many hospitals in Chennai.

According to the consultant, Infectious Diseases, Dr. Suresh Kumar from Apollo hospitals in Chennai, cases of Dengue continue to rise. He revealed that in the last 15 to 20 days there were more patients affected with chikungunya with the patients reporting joint pain. He concluded that if the test for Dengue was negative then chikungunya was considered as the reason for illness.

There has been an usual trend of fever cases at this point of time at the ICH & Hospital for Children in Egmore in Chennai. Cases of respiratory infections are more now here but it`s not alarming.

Since the second week of September, there is an increase in the number of dengue cases in the kids and this was mentioned by Dr. Janani Shankar of Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital in Chennai. Truth is that some kids needed admissions in this hospital for treatment but other kids managed as outpatients. The warning signs were explained to the parents. She pointed out that every year the seasonal illness usually increases during the months of October or November.

According to a senior doctor from RGGGH in Chennai it was clear that there were many cases of influenza fever with patients having respiratory symptoms and severe coughing etc.
