Suburban train derails near Gummidipundi station

Suburban trains shuttle between Gummidipundi and Chennai. Today morning at about 4 AM the suburban train which was stationed on the 5th platform was taken by a railway employee to bring it to platform 4. While he was driving, the 3rd and 4th coaches derailed. The driver who did not notice this speeded away. The derailed coaches collided with an electrical pole. Railway employees who were shocked informed the driver.
The driver stopped the train and electric power was also switched off. Technicians were rushed to the spot to remove the derailed coaches and repair the damaged track. Commuters were put into trouble because all the EMUs were cancelled. Since the express train tracks were not affected, the Railway officials made the express trains stop which were bound towards Chennai Central for the convenience of the commuters.
