Here comes a fantastic piece of news for the Chennaites now!!
On Thursday, 23rd November, the TN chief minister Mr. M.K. Staln inaugurated Chennai city`s first ever U shaped flyover near the Indira Nagar signal on the Rajiv Gandhi Salai through video conferencing.
With the help of this flyover, the motorists coming from the SRP Tools signal would be able to enter Indira Nagar via Second Avenue and move towards Thiruvanmiyur. By this, the motorists would not have to wait at the Tidel Park and Indira Nagar junctions. It is noteworthy that the two lane facility constructed by TNRDC runs to a length of 235m.
The TN govt in July 2019 had announced the construction of U shaped flyovers to bring relief for the motorists on OMR. In November 2019, administrative sanction was accorded by the TN govt. In January 2020, technical sanction was given. In October 2020, a work contract was also signed for a period of 24 months.
Point is that the second flyover that is being constructed near Taramani Link Road after Tidel Park junction would allow motorists coming from Thiruvanmiyur to Madhya Kailash to take a U turn. At the elevated level, the motorists would be able to take a left turn and U turn etc and get down before the access road to Tidel Park. In about a few weeks, the second flyover would be opened.
Information collected is that out of a total of Rs 108 cr that was allotted for these 2 flyovers an amount of Rs 18.5 cr was spent on the first flyover and Rs 18.5 cr would be spent for the second flyover also. The remaining amount would be used to build a FOB, for road widening and for consultation charges etc.
