The news that the Chennai Corporation is planning to set up solar power based modern toilets in places under GCC has been the subject of discussion for many now. An amount of Ts 270 cr would be spent for these solar power based toilets.
It is well known that the solar power based technology is being used across the world now as it is very safe for the environment. There are 2 types of electricity usage. In the first type, solar panels are used to collect electricity directly and in another type electricity is stored in batteries and it is then used from the batteries. In the day time, electricity could be used directly and in the nights the electricity that is stored in the batteries could be used.
It is worthy to mention that in Chennai in many buildings there are solar panels and electricity is being generated. In this scenario, the Chennai Corporation has decided to install solar power based modern toilet facilities.
Some locations of new modern toilets:
As per some officers from Chennai Corporation, there are 280 toilets in several places in Chennai and 90 new toilets would be constructed. This would increase the number of toilets to 370 in Chennai. In the first phase, the Chennai Corporation would be constructing new toilets in places like Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Marina Beach and Royapuram etc. They concluded that these 90 new toilets would be solar powered and would be built in an environmentally safe manner. Information is that an amount of Rs 270 cr has been allotted for the new toilets. The financial support for this project is being provided by the State Bank of India is known.
Hybrid Annuity Model or HAM:
It must be noted that this toilet scheme is being implemented under the HAM or Hybrid Annuity Model by NHAI or national highways authority of India.
