Cyclone Michaung has damaged Chennai and its nearby places are known. Flood relief operations have been going on in full swing now in 4 districts in TN. Now, the Central govt has provided its huge support to Chennai. On Thursday, 7th December, the Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah made an aerial survey of the 4 districts in TN to know more details about the damages caused by the deadly cyclone.
The sensational piece of information is that Mr. Amit Shah released Rs 450 cr to TN towards the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund in advance for relief based works. In addition, he also sanctioned the first Urban Flood Mitigation Project of an amount of Rs 561.29cr for integrated urban flood management activities for the Chennai Basin Project under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund.
Mr. Amit Shah expressed his thoughts and spoke about how Cyclone Michaung damaged the state of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. He added that to help the state governments regarding the flood relief works the Prime Minister of India has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs or MHA to release in advance the centre share of the second instalment of SDRF of Rs 493.60 cr to AP and Rs 450 cr to TN. The Union minister later mentioned how in the last 8 years Chennai had floods. It must be noted that more metropolitan cities receive excess rainfall and then floods etc now. He concluded that this flood mitigation project would make Chennai flood resilient.
It is worthy to note that the Defence minister Mr. Rajnath Singh also made an aerial survey of the flood affected areas and met the chief minister of TN in the secretariat. It is now said that the chief minister would seek immediate sanction of financial assistance to cope with this situation.
